Jeju Hosts ‘2026 Purple Week in Jeju’ to Attract Global Fandoms Global Hallyu Fandom Drive Starts June 5

Jeju Province will host ‘2026 Purple Week in Jeju’ from Friday, June 5 to Saturday, June 20 at Jeju International Airport and the historic downtown (Old Downtown) area. The 16-day event aims to showcase Jeju’s unique charm to global Hallyu (Korean Wave) fans and boost foreign tourist visits.

The event is timed to leverage the mid-June surge in global fan travel, coinciding with major Hallyu milestones such as the BTS Busan Concert and debut anniversary celebrations.

Building on the success of last year’s ‘Purple Festa,’ this year’s initiative shifts from fixed, one-off events to a “DIY (Do It Yourself) tourism program,” encouraging fans to freely explore and experience the entire island.

Blending ‘Authentic Jeju’ with ‘Hallyu Hotspots’

Jeju Province has established five strategic pillars for the event:
• Hands-on Experiences: Welcome booths and interactive cooking/craft classes.
Authentic Jeju: Integration with natural heritage sites and major tourist destinations.
• Hallyu Landmark Branding: Promoting K-drama filming locations and celebrity-visited spots.
• Community & Expansion: Providing dedicated spaces for global fan networking.
• Influencer Marketing: Enhancing brand value through strategic influencer partnerships.

By creating communication hubs for global fans and fostering organic, viral social media marketing, the province aims to brand Jeju as a premier hub for global Hallyu tourism.

Key Programs

1. Hallyu Landmark Stamp Tour
A Welcome Booth will operate daily on the first floor of Jeju Airport (next to Gate 1). Multilingual staff will assist visitors, conduct surveys, and distribute the Jeju Fandom Travel Guidebook—featuring 31 attractions, including Hallyu hotspots and downtown travel centers—along with travel information cards to visitors who follow the event’s social media.
Reward: Participants who visit three or more designated tourist sites or partner businesses and collect stamps can redeem them for exclusive Jeju souvenirs at the airport Welcome Booth.

2. Old Downtown Special Classes
In collaboration with the Jeju Urban Regeneration Center, special hands-on workshops will be held in the historic downtown area at traditional venues ‘Go-ssi House’ and ‘Kewat.’ These reservation-only classes will run three times a day over a 2–3 day period during the festival:
Cooking Class: “Make Your Own Gimbap,” paired with a tour of the Dongmun Traditional Market.
• Goods Class: “Arirang Keyring Making” using traditional Korean crafts.

These venues will be decorated to match the fandom theme, and promotional efforts will tie in with the local travel center to help revitalize surrounding businesses in the old downtown area.
