The 10th Forum will be held from September 16 to 18 at The Lin Hotel in Taichung, the region’s second-largest city, known for its mild climate, modern art scene, and growing profile in architecture and design.
On September 18, a site visit will take delegates to four places that reflect different sides of the city: a history-rich family estate, an industrial brand turned museum, a new architectural landmark, and a manufacturing icon reimagined for visitors.
1. Okuma Center
The first fishing equipment tourism factory in Asia
Established by the renowned Okuma fishing-gear brand, this museum goes beyond fishing gear and technique, it features detailed mechanical “robofish” on display, plus a multimedia interactive system that lets visitors experience the thrill of fishing firsthand.
2. Wu feng Lin Family Mansion
A well-preserved piece of history
The Wufeng Lin family is one of the Five Major Families, tracing back to a founder who settled locally in 1746. His descendant, Lin Wen-cha, commanded Fujian Province’s army during the Qing Dynasty; in recognition of his service, the Tongzhi Emperor granted him the title “Junior Guardian of the Crown Prince” and posthumously named his residence “Gong-Bao-Di.” Today, Gong-Bao-Di stands as the only remaining Qing-era first-class official residence of its kind, officially listed as a national cultural monument. Its Grand Flower Hall, once used to receive and entertain guests, still holds an elaborate theatrical stage inside.
3. Taichung Green Museumbrary
The city’s newest landmark
Completed in late 2025 by Pritzker Prize-winning architects SANAA, this complex combines an art museum and public library across eight connected volumes wrapped in metal mesh. Described by its architects as “a library in a park and an art museum in a forest,” it has quickly become one of the most talked-about new cultural spaces in the region.
4. Cycling Culture Museum
An industry told through its machines
Recently established by the Giant Group, this museum begins its story with the first steerable bicycle, built in 1817, and offers a progressive showcase of the bicycle’s allure, spanning historical evolution, industrial development, advances in craftsmanship and science, and global cycling culture through to the future. Beyond exhibitions, the museum also hosts courses and activities, along with stores selling gifts, souvenirs, coffee, and light snacks.
