[Updates by TPO Members]
What do miso, horses, marine life and taro have in common?
In Taichung, they all tell a story of tourism.
For those interested in how local culture, traditional industries and distinctive local assets can become tourism experiences, the technical tour of the 10th TPO Forum offers a chance to discover a different side of Taichung.
From food culture rooted in local industries to heritage, recreation and marine life, four stops will introduce participants to the diversity of the city’s tourism resources.
From Local Flavors to Tourism Experiences

At the Miso Cultural Factory, participants will learn about miso production and its cultural significance, while visiting a site recognized through the Top 100 Story Award. The visit shows how a familiar local product and the stories behind it can become part of a cultural tourism experience.

The journey into Taichung’s local food culture continues at the Ah-Tsung-Shih Taro Culture Museum. Founded by a pastry chef with more than 40 years of experience, the museum introduces visitors to the ecology of taro, the history of the local taro industry and pastry culture across eight themed areas. It offers a glimpse into how a regional specialty can become part of a destination’s identity and visitor experience.
Where Heritage Meets Recreation
Did you know that one of the tour stops dates back to 1952?

Houli Equestrian is a long-established government-operated equestrian facility, dating back to 1952. Originally associated with a military stallion ranch, the site has since developed into a recreational destination while retaining its historical buildings and character.
Exploring Taichung from River to Ocean

At Taichung Aquarium, the focus shifts from land to water. Built around the theme “From Taichung’s Rivers to the World’s Oceans,” the aquarium features six themed areas introducing wetlands, marine ecosystems and diverse aquatic life.

Among its highlights is a 360-degree fully transparent shark display tank, alongside dedicated areas for penguins, jellyfish and coral ecosystems.
The site offers another perspective on how tourism, environmental education and visitor experiences can come together within a city’s tourism offer.
Come and Experience Taichung!

Together, the four stops reveal the range of experiences that shape Taichung as a destination, from local food and cultural heritage to recreation and marine tourism.
Beyond exploring the city, the technical tour will give Forum participants an opportunity to exchange perspectives on tourism development, cultural preservation and the use of local resources, while connecting with fellow member cities and tourism partners.
Join us in Taichung for the 10th TPO Forum and experience the city beyond the conference venue.
Registration is open until September 4.
